DALLAS (KLTV) - The CEO of Backpage.com has been arrested in connection with a human trafficking investigation.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the arrest of Carl Ferrer during a Thursday press conference. Ferrer will face charges in California for pimping and other related charges. He was arrested Thursday afternoon at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

According to the AG's office, the CEO was arrested after law enforcement was alerted to inappropriate ads on the website. The AG's office said Backpage.com took no action to correct the issue.

The company, which has offices in Dallas, is headquartered in the Netherlands.

A search warrant was executed at the Dallas offices. The warrant is based on money laundering related to the California pimping charge.
